Business & Decision, the Business Intelligence, CRM and e-Business specialist, in partnership with Schneider Electric and Intel, opened a new green and innovative datacenter last week. Together with Eolas, its Grenoble-based subsidiary, Business & Decision chose to design and equip its third datacenter in the Grenoble region with solutions from Schneider Electric and Intel.

This project draws its strength from the partners' experience in their respective fields. Schneider Electric is the global specialist in energy management, APC by Schneider Electric brings expertise in power and cooling services for datacenter applications, and Intel is the undisputed leader of the IT market.

Schneider Electric, particularly through its IT Business division, brought its global expertise in power and cooling solutions for datacenter applications, electrical installation design, building security, and also helped with the room's physical infrastructure.

Set up in an old building, this datacenter is ecologically designed, using the most innovative solutions available. IT, storage and network virtualization is a major strategic focus for Business & Decision. Its IT capacity management and service quality challenges have driven the company to study the subject of Cloud Computing at a very early stage. Accompanied by Intel, the Business & Decision Group thus decided to equip the datacenter with enhanced virtualization features.

Another notable characteristic of this datacenter is that it uses the water table upon which it is located to power the white room's cooling circuits' air-conditioners with "natural cooling". It is powered by green electricity, generated by GEG Group's (Gaz Electricité de Grenoble) hydroelectric power plants and wind farms. The building is also equipped with photovoltaic solar panels of a 75kW peak capacity.

"The datacenter's positive ecological footprint shows that it is possible to successfully implement decarbonized projects", says Gérald Dulac, Green Datacenter project director for Business & Decision. He adds "our exemplary collaboration with Schneider Electric, APC by Schneider Electric and Intel, has resulted in a functional, reliable, modular and energy-efficient infrastructure". IT installations will gradually occupy all of the building's 800 m² surface area.
